Maria (Amada) Costa
Clinical/School Psychologist
Maria Costa (Amada), is a registered psychologist with the College of Psychologists
of Ontario, with competency in the areas of school and counseling psychology with children, adolescents, and adults.
Amada has over 25 years of experience in mental health and school psychology, having worked in the large institutions in Ontario, including the mental health department of University Health Network, and both the Toronto District School Board and the Toronto Catholic District School Board. Alongside these roles, Amada has worked in private practice.
Amada Costa has extensive experience working with complex cases, from assessment to treatment. She has conducted comprehensive psychoeducational assessments for students from preschool to university levels, diagnostic assessments related to motor vehicle accidents (MVA) and work-related accidents and injuries (WSIB), in addition to short and long term treatment of various mental health conditions, delivering evidence-based psychotherapy interventions. Her experience also includes assessment of risk of self-harm and crisis interventions, development of treatment plans, education and support for family members, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and liaison with various agencies.
Amada has shifted her work exclusively to psychoeducational and psychological/psychodiagnostics assessments, covering areas such as ADHD, giftedness, learning disabilities, intellectual developmental conditions, co-existing mental health conditions, and behavioural and socio-emotional difficulties.
Her approach is comprehensive, compassionate, and patient centered as she believes in taking the necessary time to work with the patients to truly understand their challenges and its possible causes, offering tailored recommendations to help them reach their full potential and enhance their overall well-being.
