What’s Included:
- Comprehensive Psychoeducational Assessment: Conducted by a psychologist, available in-person or virtually.
- Complete Mental Health Diagnostic Evaluation: Performed by a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatrist in partnership with Integrative Psychiatry Canada (IPC).
- Personalized Report: Includes practical support strategies, tailored recommendations for academic accommodations or workplace modifications, psychiatric diagnostics, and comprehensive medication plans, when appropriate.
What Does a Psychoeducational + Psychiatry Collaborative Assessment Cover
Psychoeducational Assessment Component
Conducted by a psychologist, this component identifies learning strengths and disabilities, providing a clear picture of how an individual processes information and navigates academic challenges.
Psychiatric Assessment Component
Performed in collaboration with a nurse practitioner and psychiatrist, this component explores additional mental health concerns, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and more. It also considers medical causes for symptoms and offers treatment plans, including medication management and adjustments, when appropriate.

Note: Most Canadian school boards and post-secondary institutions require accommodation recommendations be made by a psychologist.

Virtual Assessments
- Ages 8 to 50
- Available across Ontario
- Testing materials for psychoeducational component couriered to the home
- Follows the same professional standards as in-person
- Ideal for families outside our clinic regions, needing flexibility, or with limited transportation options
- All psychiatric components to the assessment are done virtually
- Psychiatrists have a special interest in autism diagnostics, making virtual autism diagnostics an option
In–Person Assessments
- Ages 8 to 50 for psychoeducational assessment portion only
- Available in Cambridge, Sarnia, Mississauga, St. Catharines, and Windsor
- Structured, quiet testing environment
- Two testing sessions usually lasting 2 to 3 hours for psychoeducational component

How the Psychoeducational + Psychiatry Assessment Works
Intake Sessions
Caregivers or individuals (age appropriate) share concerns and provide detailed background information, including developmental history and detailed medical history, inclusive of mental health.
Document Review
Review of academic achievement through report cards, previous assessments, and IEPs to identify areas of need.
Review of additional mental health reporting and documents is completed by a mental health nurse practitioner and psychiatrist.
Standardized Testing Sessions for Psychoeducational Assessments
In-person or virtual standardized psychological testing usually takes place over 2 separate days of 2 to 3 hours each.
Collaborative Psychiatric Assessment Conducted Virtually
4 weeks following the completion of the psychoeducational testing, the nurse practitioner and psychiatrist conduct virtual diagnostic assessments.
Assessment Report and Feedback Session
A detailed report authored in collaboration with the nurse practitioner, psychologist, and psychiatrist is provided, offering information about mental health diagnostics, learning needs, learning style, strengths and weaknesses, academic recommendations, support strategies, and medication plans, when warranted.
Patients and families have the option to share this report with schools and/or healthcare providers at their discretion.
A virtual feedback session with the psychologist is offered, providing a clear explanation of assessment results and next steps.
