Discover our child and youth psychoeducational assessments, designed to build a clear understanding of how a student thinks, learns, and manages daily academic demands.

Each assessment brings together information about attention, learning patterns, problem-solving approaches, and school performance to create a meaningful picture of a child’s learning profile. Families receive a detailed report with results, practical support strategies, and tailored recommendations to guide academic accommodations and/or modifications in the school setting.

Who This Psychoeducational Assessment Is For

  • Students ages 6–17
  • Families noticing academic struggles, attention concerns, or behavioural issues
  • Children/youth needing recommendations for academic accommodation and/or modification to form the basis of an IEP
  • Students being evaluated for giftedness
  • Children requiring documentation for school supports (IEP)
  • Families seeking diagnostic clarity (ADHD, learning disability, etc.)

What the Child & Youth Psychoeducational Assessment Covers

Learning Disabilities & Learning Disorders

We assess reading skills and reading comprehension, phonological processing, writing, and mathematics, using achievement tests to identify dyslexia, dyscalculia, and/or dysgraphia. Difficulties may include decoding, phonetic skills, math problem-solving, or written expression.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Assessments

Evaluation of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity helps determine whether ADHD is affecting academic performance, executive functioning, or daily functioning, whether assessed virtually or in-person.

Executive Functioning

Evaluating cognitive processes and cognitive abilities such as planning, organization, and attention control. The assessment may include tasks that measure working memory, problem-solving skills, and self-monitoring skills.

Emotional & Behavioural Functioning

In addition to executive functions, we screen for anxiety disorders, depression, emotional regulation challenges, and behavioural concerns that may affect academic performance, social skills, and personal development.

Giftedness, Intellectual Abilities, and Intellectual Disabilities

For intellectual abilities, including giftedness, we highlight advanced problem-solving, rapid learning, and strong reasoning skills to support enrichment or accelerated learning, where appropriate. In contrast, intellectual disabilities are characterized by below-average IQ scores and deficits in adaptive functioning.

Language & Processing Skills

Evaluation of receptive and expressive language skills, along with memory and processing speed, clarifies how a student understands, retains, and communicates information.

Social-Emotional Functioning

Providing insight into the individual’s emotional awareness and expression, social skills and communication, empathy and social cognition, emotion regulation and impulse control, and overall adaptive behaviours and coping strategies. This information helps the psychologist identify mental health concerns and behavioural well-being that may impact academic, cognitive, and/or overall functioning.

Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) Considerations

While not part of our standard psychoeducational testing battery, concerns for ASDs will be discussed with caregivers. Additional testing sessions (virtual or in-person) can be arranged at an additional assessment cost.

How the Psychoeducational Assessment Works

Intake Session (Virtual or In-Person)

Caregivers and the child (if age appropriate) share concerns and provide background information, including developmental history and medical history.

Document Review

Review of academic achievement through report cards, previous assessments, and IEPs to identify areas of need.

Standardized Testing Sessions

Your child completes a series of standardized psychological and academic tasks across two testing sessions (2–3 hours each).
In-Person: Testing takes place at one of our clinic locations in a quiet, structured environment.
Virtual: Testing materials are couriered to your home, and all tasks are administered under real-time video supervision to maintain accuracy and standardized administration.

Assessment Report

A detailed written report providing test results is provided, offering information about diagnosis (when warranted), learning needs, learning style, strengths and weaknesses, recommendations, and support strategies. Patients and families have the option to share this report with schools and/or healthcare providers at their discretion.

Feedback Session

A virtual or phone feedback session with the psychologist providing a clear explanation of assessment results and next steps.

What You’ll Take Away

  • A detailed report
  • Clear learning strengths and needs
  • Recommendations for academic accommodation and/or modification to form the basis of an IEP
  • Strategies for home, school, and environmental supports
  • Guidance for next steps (school, post-secondary, therapy referrals)

Edcommodate has proven to be an invaluable partner in the realm of psychoeducational assessments and psychometric testing. We enthusiastically refer our patients to their services whenever these evaluations are necessary. The professionalism and efficiency demonstrated by their psychological team, especially Ashley Gunter, Dr. Nikhil Koushik, Kristyn Drover, Dr. Natalie Hazzard, and Dr. Diana Jovanovski, are unparalleled in Ontario. Notably, Edcommodate's initiative to now offer virtual psychoeducational assessments across Ontario in addition to in person assessments, is a groundbreaking advancement that significantly enhances accessibility for children aged 8 and above, particularly for those in remote communities or facing resource constraints. This pioneering approach not only improves access to essential services but also showcases their commitment to supporting diverse populations. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Edcommodate for a long time to come.

My partner and I were initially skeptical about Edcommodate since they did not have a waitlist for psychoeducational assessments, especially compared to the 6 - 18 month waitlists we encountered when calling other providers in Kitchener, Waterloo, and Guelph. However, we are incredibly grateful to have found Edcommodate! From the very beginning, both the psychologist and the administrative team were nothing short of amazing. They were professional, compassionate, and approachable, which put us at ease. I want to extend a special thank you to Ashley and Jill for their patience in answering all our questions. Now that we have received our report, we’ve shared it with the school and those who have reviewed have commented on how easy it is to read and understand. It has truly been a vital step to start getting our son’s academics back on track. Most importantly, Edcommodate made sure our son felt heard and comfortable throughout the whole process. I genuinely wish I could give more than 5 stars!
