Edcommodate provides psychoeducational developmental assessments to help families understand their young child’s development, milestones, and any early signs of developmental delay.
Our in-person assessments for ages 3–5 evaluate all areas of development, including social, emotional, cognitive, and behavioural.

These assessments use evidence-based developmental screening tools and early childhood best practices to support early identification of developmental concerns and guide families, educators, and healthcare providers in planning next steps. Our clinicians have extensive experience in early childhood development and clinical presentations of psychological disorders.

Who Is This Assessment For?

A psychoeducational developmental assessment may be appropriate for children who:

  • Are ages 3–5
  • Are not meeting expected developmental milestones or show possible developmental delays
  • Have concerns in speech, language development, motor skills, or social development
  • Show behaviours that may indicate a developmental disorder (e.g., ASD, ADHD, global developmental delay)
  • Need support with school readiness or early learning in child care or preschool settings
  • Have been referred by a healthcare provider or early childhood professional for further developmental screening

A Developmental Psychoeducational Assessment may be appropriate if at least one of the following is true:

  • Is your child facing ongoing challenges with reading, despite receiving early intervention programs like Strong Start for over five months?
  • Their teacher(s) have expressed concerns about notable difficulties with attention, impulsivity, hyperactivity, or other functional areas that have persisted since Kindergarten
  • A pediatrician or healthcare provider indicated that your child may be experiencing severe ADHD or another significant condition

Key Features of the Developmental Assessment Process

Intake Session

We begin with a collaborative intake meeting with caregivers and children (where appropriate) to understand your child’s history, strengths, challenges, and your main concerns. This helps guide the assessment and ensures we focus on what matters most to your family.

Document Review

We review relevant materials, such as report cards, early care notes, medical information, and any previous assessments, to build a complete picture of your child’s development and learning profile.

Standardized Developmental Testing

Your child participates in evidence-based, age-appropriate tasks that evaluate key developmental areas. These structured tools allow us to compare your child’s progress to developmental expectations.

Feedback Session

We conclude with a virtual or phone feedback meeting to walk through the results, answer questions, and guide next steps so you feel confident using the insights to support your child’s growth.

Assessment Report

You receive a clear, comprehensive written report outlining findings, diagnoses (if applicable), and tailored recommendations designed to support learning, behaviour, and overall development.
